UGHly Shoes: Sarah Jessica Parker in Camel Toe Boots

It pains me greatly to see Sarah Jessica Parker in UGHly shoes... but she has been known to wear some. I don't know how I overlooked the cloven hoof faux pas back in February. These boots are truly hideous. They make her look deformed and give new meaning to the phrase "camel toe."

What are they? A vision (nightmare) from Martin Margiela split toe booties.

Even if one tries too approach the boot as a work of art, what is the theme behind the cork heel? It's like the Martin Margiela got lazy and decided the whole look is a joke.

UGHly Shoes: Posh's Metalic Platform Heels

Victoria Beckham is the darling of fashion news. Everyone wants to know what she's wearing and then copy her without thinking about style on their own. Here's one pair of shoes to avoid stealing from Posh's closet: metallic stiletto platforms. I can't believe anyone would wear these to a mall but VB did! These would be better suited for a strip bar than a shopping trip.

 

So if you are not a stripper, what would one pair with these shoes? Evidently, the correct answer is a really short orange dress. I'd be wearing a cast after twisting my ankle!

I don't care for her outfit here in general... Except for the sunglasses. I'm a fan of big sunglasses and have been wearing over-sized lenses for years

 

Rules for Wearing Ankle Boots

A popular shoe again this season is the ankle boot. I've always liked these booties but it seems my budget gets spent on heels for full boots because you can wear those with anything. That said, there are some do's and dont's with ankle boots. Let's look at a few celebrities for examples:

DO wear ankle boots with jeans or slacks: Jeans and ankle books go together like red wine and dark chocolate. Here, Hilary Duff sports patent leather ankle boots with jeans. Too bad her bag was not black like her shoes... otherwise it's a good look.

DO wear ankle boots with leggings: Well done, Ashlee! Ms. Simpson pairs her black ankle boots with black leggings and creates and long, lean look.

DO wear ankle boots with a casual dress: I found this great shot of Hayden Panettiere on The Clotheshorse where you'll find another great story on ankle boots. Hayden's look is classic here. The green shade of the dress is amazing. The length of the dress is perfect with the boots and avoids the stumpy look often seen with short hemlines and these shoes.

DO NOT wear ankle boots with an evening gown: The combination of an cocktail dress or evening gown with ankle boots is odd. The boots look like they do not belong, as seen on Mischa Barton.

DO NOT wear ankle boots with shorts: Why Ashlee, why? This is not a winning look for Ashlee Simpson (circa 2006). I don't understand why girls pair ankle boots with shorts -- it looks mismatched and tacky. They also make have a tendency to make legs look short (although not the case with Ashlee here).

Got a slipper fetish? So does David Beckham!

I worked from home today, so I did not have to wear shoes. I could have worn slippers. Evidently, David Beckham and Snoop Dogg love slippers a lot.

For today's post, I was wondering what kind of slippers celebrities wear when they are kicking back at home like the rest of us mortals. I happened upon an interesting article. Evidently, there was a flurry on the internet back in January that David Beckham and Snoop Dogg were going into the slipper making business together. Is this true? What would the slippers look like?

Apparently, Snoop Dogg told interviewers the following:
I got him [David Beckham] a pair as a present, and he took a picture and sent it back to me, and I was like, 'They look cool!'

Snoop also said: We are talking about making a slipper together. So when I stop rapping and he stops football we can kick back and slip on a house shoe.

"House shoe?" Really?

A few weeks later, Beckham's publicist denied Snoopy's claim. Mystery solved.

But what kind of slippers would Snoop give Mr. Posh Spice? I guess we'll never know!

Miley Cryus High-Top Sneakers

A recent photo of Ms. Cyrus that I saw on oceanUp was cute but, of course, I completely focused on her shoes. Sparkling high tops reminded me of the days when I was begging my mother for a pair bright red Converse high tops... Sadly, I never got them before the L.A. Gear crazy hit the nation. I never got L.A. Gear either but, luckily for me, Converse is here to stay and high-tops are back in style thanks to famous teens like Miley.

When I was growing up, I don't recall such a wide variety of high tops. Sparkle is fine, I still want my classic red high tops - after all, casual Friday's were invented to give our feet a break for heel hell!

A visit to the Converse page shows they have indeed kept of with the time and trends. My classic red is only $24.99.

If basic red is too tame and you don't want to look you created your wardrobe based on Flash Dance, you can create your own Converse.

Nike has a similar functionality on their site which allows you to let your creativity run wild by designing your own shoe. However, I did find the Converse page easier to use and there was also more variety for inspiration on their site as well.

Finally, the marketing around the Converse design-your-own is empowering because it focuses on how creativity can make the world a better place.
